Fishing Connetquot River State Park Preserve with Tom McCoy

Saturday, April 6, 2019 - 1:00 p.m.

Tom McCoy

Tom McCoy's presentation will demystify fly fishing. He will introduce you to simple techniques and flies that will make your time on the water as a beginner more enjoyable. Tom's slide show will "walk" you through the park and its fishing beats, how he fishes each site, how a fly rod works, and where you just might find a big one. The presentation will be followed by an optional hike with a tour of the fish hatchery. (Total hike distance is two miles.)

Tom McCoy is a fly fisher, an accomplished author of "how to" fishing books and fishing stories. He volunteers to assist new fly fishers with Project Healing Waters, Casting for Recovery and the annual casting clinic hosted by Connetquot. Recently he worked on a LITU committee to update their stream guide - Trout Fishing Long Island's Spring Creeks (of which Connetquot is one). He is known for his relaxed, yet effective fly fishing methods. "There are many ways to approach fishing with a fly and mine is but one. I am glad to share my experience with all that are interested, not as an expert, just as a friend" says Tom. Tom's living document is the blog on his website http://tomsfishingstories.com

Date/Time: Saturday, April 6, 2019 - 1:00 p.m.

Registration for the lecture and hike are free although seasonal parking rates apply.
