FOC Newsletter, Chairman's Letter, Winter 2018

Our Board of Directors are busy planning so many interesting things for our membership!

For our Equestrians – we held a meeting with the Assistant Park Director in February to go over some of the needs of our equestrians and are we are also in the process of searching for grants for trail maintenance. Jerry and Rita Trapani have scheduled another Equestrian Lecture. The date is March 10th at 1pm and Karen Spillman, DVM, will be discussing “Insect Borne Diseases and Their Prevention”. Tiffany Wyman of Nutrena Feeds will be talking about Body Condition, Scoring, and Topline Evaluation. Snacks, drinks and Door Prizes will be available. RSVP to Jerry Trapani at shadbelly4@aol.com or call (917) 355-5225 for reservations. (Attendance is FREE but admittance is limited to 50 people and you must have reservations).

For our Fishing Public - we have also been working on a 6-week Fly-Fishing Seminar. It will begin on Saturday, April 14th and continue each Saturday for a total of six Saturdays. The last week (May 19th) will be an actual fishing session. Look on our website, Facebook and in this issue for information to sign up. We will only be able to accommodate 20 people and the cost per person is $125 which also provides a fishing license for each attendee.

I Love My Park Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 5th. This is a day when anyone can volunteer to help achieve improvements around the park. There will be plenty to do and you can sign up here.

We will have our Annual Trail Ride and Walk and have added a Plant Sale since it will be held the week before Mother’s Day. The date is Sunday, May 6th.

Our 6th Annual Ladies Tea will be held on Sunday, June 10th from 11 am to 1 pm ($30/person). Hats are MANDATORY and reservations are required. Last year we sold out two months before the event so make your reservations now!

We have scheduled Kerriann Flanagan Brosky, Author of “Historic Haunts of Long Island; Ghosts and Legends from the Gold Coast to Montauk Point” for Saturday, October 20th from 2-3:30 to discuss her book. This should be a great, fun-filled event and we’ll be decorated for Halloween. The fee will be $15/person. Reservations are required. Again, information is available through our website, Facebook and our newsletter.

This year for the first time we will be holding “Christmas at Connetquot” in the beginning of December. There will be an abundance of Christmas trees, wreaths, sprays and decorations throughout the entire building. Some of the trees, sprays and wreaths will be raffled off too. There are many, many themes and we will also have St. Nicholas for the children along with cider and cookies. Come and tour our refurbished rooms decorated for the Christmas holidays. Look for more information in our website, Facebook and in upcoming issues of our Newsletter.

Our newly rebuilt Nicoll Mill will be open soon for tours. This took many years and a lot of funding to achieve. Look for information on the reopening and Tours soon!

We look forward to seeing you at Connetquot. Come and see how much we have accomplished!

Sincerely,
Ginny Fields
